As we move into November and towards the Thanksgiving season, it is a wonderful time to reflect on the biblical aspects of both thankfulness and gratitude. Scripture offers that gratitude is not just a seasonal activity but a way of life that honors God and enriches our own faith journeys.
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstance; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
This scripture encourages us to find reasons to be thankful, even amidst challenges. It teaches us that gratitude is a choice, a practice that can lift us up and guide us.
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name: For the Lord is good, his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” – Psalm 100:4-5
This scripture reminds us to have an attitude of gratitude and to always acknowledge God’s goodness in our lives.
As we take time this season to reflect on our blessings, I invite you to consider a gratitude journal for the month of November. Jot down things you are thankful and grateful for each day. This simple act can reveal God’s presence in the ordinary and help us to recognize God in our lives, even in the mundane. You may have heard me and others refer to these moments as “God winks” or “God sightings”. Won’t you join me in looking for God in the everyday during this season of thanksgiving?
Blessings during this season,
Pastor Heidi
