Layne was born in Ohio, and has lived in Chicago and Southern California before recently moving here to Austin to join the Central Christian community. He studied Communications and Theater at Miami University (of Ohio) and was a professional actor in Chicago and Los Angeles for over 2 decades. He received both his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from The Claremont School of Theology, in Claremont California.
An ordained Disciples of Christ minister, Layne has served as a congregational pastor since 2007. He enjoys the give-and-take of congregational ministry, finding that congregants minister to him and provide spiritual stimulation and growth opportunities for him as much as he might provide the same for them.
Layne is eager to hike and explore the many beautiful natural settings in the greater Central Texas area. He is married to Michyl-Shannon Quilty, and has one adult son, Shayne.
Eager to meet our CCC neighbors and friends, Layne believes that Jesus and God are busy out in the streets and in other settings beyond our church walls. Knowing that there is still much work to be done and much worship and praise to be offered inside our beautiful church, he also believes that there are ample opportunities to partner with non-church individuals and entities in non-traditional settings to serve our sisters and brothers in ways that God recognizes as authentic worship.
