Still “becoming church”

Still “becoming church”

Yo howdy All Y’all! It is a beautiful day!

The world keeps spinning – with each of us experiencing twists and turns in our own lives – but nothing
spinning completely out of control for we are congregants of a Christ centered church. We have learned and
are learning what it means “becoming church”, and new ways to do so. We join in congregation on our web
site, Facebook or You-tube; some of us are congregating by Zoom – these opportunities have been God
sent.

For Central Christian Church Austin, Disciples of Christ, becoming church has been in process since 1846;
we no longer congregate in a log cabin beside the Colorado river but now we gather in worship in many
ways, including in-person and socially spaced while wearing masks.

Early in this pandemic our musical minister Mark arranged and sang for us “they will know we are
Christians by our Love, by our Love, and they’ll know we are Christians by our masks”. For some
congregations, “being” a Christian church is easier than thinking – limiting their worship and understandings
to traditional ways, masking not their faces but masking the revelations in the teachings of Christ.
Congregations in worship can be safe, nurturing, thoughtful and welcoming – as we are; trusting in each
other’s reflection of gratitude, praise and service; recognizing in all things Love. New folks are again
visiting! Visits in-person to our sanctuary, some just with drive-by’s, and others with short morning
church-porch conversations with Pastor Layne on Monday and Wednesdays.

We’re growing! We’re also growing wildflowers and tomatoes – gifts to the street: for our neighbors, for
strangers and passersby! Scripture passages selected by Pastor Layne are placed throughout our gardens.
Please know your own presence becoming church, and please consider welcoming your friends
and family to visit, to pause, to harvest and pray; to breathe in and witness the Grace of God.

“The Spirit of God hath made me; the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.” Job 33:4

In becoming a Christ centered church, “Perseverance must continue its work so that you may be mature and
complete, not lacking anything.”
James 1:4
The Spirit of Christ be with you.

Thank you.
Be well.
