Gardening with God

Yo howdy, All Y’all.

Early in his presence as our Senior Pastor, Pastor Layne placed little signs in our
garden, two of which read:
“Watch the space!
Wildflower garden in progress!”

Just so y’all know, “Wild!” precedes “flowers!” Some of our gardens are clearly in the “wild” phase.

“But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.” Romans 8:25

Our San Antonio hillside especially looks like we’re growing weeds – and we are! (This could also be
considered a metaphor.) My maternal grandmother in Western Kansas would often say “A weed is just a
flower out of place”. Until it blooms.

Last Autumn, several members of our congregation scattered handfuls of assorted wildflower seed over
the hillside, many of these seeds have sprouted in a randomly wild placement. Gardening with God,
shepherding what grows.

A few tomatoes are beginning to ripen, we have begun regular deliveries of leafy greens and herbs to
Angel’s House Soup Kitchen. Anyone who would like to help with harvesting or weeding the vegetables, or
anything else, please reach out to me or visit with ne at church on Saturday morning or Sunday after
services. It is so rewarding to receive appreciation for our church gardens from passersby everyday – it
would be wonderful if more of us could experience that joy.

This week, we offered dill and fennel plants to some yellow, green and black caterpillars that will grow up
to be beautiful blue black swallowtail butterflies! The dill and fennel will resume thriving soon.

This week also, Pastor Layne added new garden signs with Scripture selections and other poetry,
please walk about and renew yourselves.

“He will also send you rain for the seed you sow in the ground, and the food that comes from the land will
be rich and plentiful.”
– Isaiah 30:23

God’s Grace is with us always.
Be well.
