Yo howdy All Y’all! It is a beautiful day to be in our gardens.
The wisdom in growing weeds is that we can trust that what grows will be resilient.
Some very slowly grow but rooted in solid rock, some grow fast and spreading, each and all with surprising benefits and blooms.
God’s Grace demonstrating abundance and endurance; accepted and shared with trust, In balance.
A seasonal rain, and a mix of new colors are ready to burst into bloom. Until then, random blooms of different weeds here and there surprise, migrating birds and butterflies are still well-fed. We have one cluster of Stapelia gigantea, native to South Africa and Tanzania. With lots of water and some shade it can become invasive, with little water it survives, but needs cover once temperatures drop below 40. It begins to bloom this time of year, the flowers sometimes 12 inches across – a fuzzy yet leathery flower that lasts a couple days. It smells awful, it’s common name, carrion plant.
We have some surprises (and more to come this fall) all over, but watch for new colors by St. Francis, and notice the delicate yellow blooms on a solitary “broom weed” in the mix, it’s subtle beauty easy to overlook. I dunno where it came from, but we should have more next year, it’s a weed. Native to Texas, drought tolerant.
This is the day Creation hath made, let us rejoice in it. (How I remember Psalm 118:24)
