We can’t wait to meet you!
Our Worship Service
Our Guiding Light
Central Christian Church is a faithful, caring, thoughtful, open minded, Christ-centered fellowship.
In all things we strive to follow the example and teachings of Jesus Christ; taking him seriously when he teaches that our number-one priority should be to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves. We strive to love and serve our neighbors with humility and empathy.
While our members claim Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we do not need to belittle or besmirch the beliefs of other faith communities. We claim a unique relationship to God through Jesus, but joyfully acknowledge that there are other types of relationships possible with the God of all peoples in all lands.
Worship
What to expect on Sunday morning…
Our worship is fairly traditional in format but is not rigidly fixed or dogmatic; we feel free to mix it up. We join in prayers, share selections from the Bible and hear a thoughtful reflection on those readings; we sing and listen to inspiring music, we collect an offering to support our ministry, and we share communion each week where all are welcomed at the Lord’s Table. We will be dressed in a variety of ways; some will be a bit more formal in suits and ties or dresses, and some will be in jeans and untucked shirts. Come as you are, and you’ll blend right in.
Music
We feature harp, viola, guitar, piano, vocals and organ
Our music will include hymns and other standard Christian music; but may also feature secular pieces in a wide variety of styles accompanied by a rotating schedule of musicians. A string duo, a pianist, a guitarist, and our grand pipe organ accompany soloists and ensemble singers who provide special selections and lead us in hymns. Our organ is truly something special…in our opinion it is one of the very best organs in the city (although we may be slightly biased).
Congregation
Who will I meet there?
We will cover a range of ages, backgrounds, and incomes. You’ll likely meet young downtown condo owners and apartment dwellers, a few unhoused neighbors, as well as many long-time members who now reside in Austin’s larger suburban ring. We’ll let you know how happy we are that you came, but we won’t pounce on you or try to sign you up for anything!
