Help for the Harvest

Help for the Harvest

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
– Romans 12:12-13

Our gardens downtown embracing our church are growing vigorously! Spring is the season of
rebirth and Resurrection. Already we have begun sharing the harvest of healthy greens –
spinach, kale, chard – and herbs with the Austin Baptist Chapel’s Angel House.
With the assistance of church members, pastors and students from the Austin School for the
Visual and Performing Arts the tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables have been
transplanted, seeds of okra, squash and beans are already sprouting. Thank you each and
all, we are gardening with God.

An abundance of a wide variety native wildflowers have sprouted and grow and are beginning to
bloom. The walkway along 12th Street and the San Antonio hillside will be fun to watch. At
our front corner a colony of wild primrose bloom pink beneath our wrought iron sign.
This colony of pink flowers are for me a “loaves and fishes” thing, beginning as a few transplants of
“weeds” that had been growing beside the parking lot; from this colony plants will be again
relocated to bring color and vitality to new areas.

Please keep “watching this space” as the edges of our campus are softened to welcome,
comfort and nourish – affirming our service of Christ in our community. Feel comfortable
asking questions about what is growing or blooming.

Soon help will be needed with harvest – our crops will be producing thru the fall; please let me
know if you care to harvest. Certainly know you are welcome to nibble and gather some herbs.

“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying,
then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;
if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,
do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”
– Romans 12: 6-8

Be well.
